ALPR Transparency

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office utilizes Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras to enhance public safety throughout San Mateo County.

Crime doesn’t differentiate between jurisdictional lines, and through the use of technology, including ALPR cameras, the Sheriff’s Office is able to address criminal activity more efficiently.

To ensure the technology is being used for its intended purpose, the Sheriff’s Office has an ALPR Policy that prohibits out of state and federal agencies from accessing its ALPR data.

For more information, including which California agencies have access to Sheriff’s Office ALPR data, visit the Flock Transparency Portal. Note: the Transparency Portal covers the City of Millbrae, the City of San Carlos and unincorporated areas of San Mateo County.

The City of Half Moon Bay and the Town of Woodside host their own Transparency Portals, which can be viewed at the links below.
