Medical emergency occurring in the Jury Assembly Room

On October 25th, while working in our Hall of Justice, Deputies Jeff Carr and James Salomaa were advised of a medical emergency occurring in the Jury Assembly Room. Upon arriving, they learned a juror had gone into sudden cardiac arrest and had stopped breathing.

Another juror who was present at the time, Ms. Erica Lewis just happened to be a medical doctor and with her help, Deputies Carr and Salomaa initiated life saving measures including CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

While working as a team they were able to restore the juror’s pulse and breathing. The juror was taken to Stanford Hospital via ambulance where he was treated.

“The Sheriff’s Office is a great organization because of Deputies such as Jeff Carr and James Salomaa. They did not hesitate to act and saved a man’s life. I am proud to work with them and I commend them for their professionalism and dedication to duty.”
